If the photos above aren't enough inspiration, just google "scarecrow ideas" or "how to build a scarecrow" and you'll find an endless supply of creativity.

However, many of the ideas on the web assume that you'll be able to pound a post into the ground to support your scarecrow -- which is not allowed at the Botanic Gardens. So, here are a few ideas that we've collected for creating a self-supporting scarecrow -- we hope one will work for you!

PVC flange

Use 2 PVC flanges (one for each leg) to attach PVC framework to a wooden base.

Creative re-purposing

Use an old Christmas tree stand as a base. Or use an old coat-tree or floor lamp as support.

Wooden box base

Use 1"x4" boards to build a rectangular base

L - brackets

Screw wooden legs to a wooden base with L-brackets. Camouflage bracket with matching paint colors.

A place to sit

Pose your scarecrow on an old stool or haybale with a stick or PVC framework attached to the seat.
